--------- WRITTEN MAY 2014 ---------

As a Klout Influencer I was introduced to Stitch Fix, which is a subscription fashion box! After browsing the site for a few moments and saw the example outfits, I instantly signed up! Most of you know I'm fashionably challenged and rarely post about fashion or clothes on this site, but hopefully that will be changing soon! I hope to incorporate some new pieces into my wardrobe along with sharing all my findings with you.

As a subscriber of Stitch Fix, first you will be asked to fill out a short survey of your sizes, preferences and likes/dislikes. You then choose a monthly subscription or pick a date when you would like a "Fix". I love the fact that you aren't committed to a monthly charge. I scheduled my first "Fix" for May 6th as I'm going to be traveling most of the month of April. After the "Fix" arrives, I will then have three days to decide if I want to keep any of the items or send them back using a pre-paid USPS mailing bag.  (I do wish it was a week, three days seems a little short to me!)

Stitch Fix carries a wide selection of women size shirts, sweaters, pants, skirts, dresses, jackets, scarves, jewelry and bags, ranging from 0/XS–14/XL and on average costs about $65.00 per piece. Currently Stitch Fix is only available in the United States. The "Fix" is a $20 styling fee which is then applied as a credit toward anything you keep from your shipment. If you decide to keep all five items in the box you will get 25% off the total order price.

Stitch Fix works with over 200 of the best up-and-coming labels and brands—the kinds featured in magazines and on stylish celebs. For example, some of the feature clothing in include Collective Concepts, Kut From The Kloth, Daniel Rainn, Kensie, Kensie Jeans, Under Skies, L.A. Made, Sanctuary Clothing, Mystree, Tart Collections, or 41Hawthorn.

--------- THE REVIEW ---------

I waited a while to do this post as honestly I was a bit disappointed in this subscription box. I prefer to write positive reviews and share with my readers the products I enjoy so that hopefully they will find enjoyment out of them too. But on the flip side, a negative review is just as helpful, so over time I've thought what the heck, I'd rather know someone's opinion, whether it be good or bad, to help my choice if I'd like to try a particular service.

I'll be the first to admit I'm not big into fashion. I wish I was, but makeup and hair products interest me much more. Being a klout influencers I was offered a free box, so of course I jumped on the opportunity. First I had to go on their website and fill out a survey, with my sizes and which outfits most interest me.

I had no idea what to expect, but upon arrival I was so excited. On first impression, the box was wrapped very nicely and the envelope was personalized with an explanation of each item included in the box, with an outfit assemble ideas. Also included was an introductory letter with a sheet of paper listing out all the prices of the pieces.

Included in the box was five items. One pair of jeans, one piece of jewelry and three shirts. I loved the material of the "Just Black", Adora Ankle Length Skinny Jeans, the "Pixley", Nora Hammered Coin bracelet was my second favorite and third was the "Renne C", Malcolm Heathered Dolman Sleeve Knit shirt. The "Fun2Fun", Torrance Lace Detailed Sleeveless Blouse was cute but the material was thin and I didn't like the criss cross pattern in the front with roses down the seams. It would be a cute shirt for work, maybe, but I don't have a job that requires me to dress in business attire. The "Pomelo", Nolen Tribal Print Henley Tank was just flat out ugly. It looks like something I would wear to go on a tour at the Cherokee Museum. I also don't have any navy clothing, expect jeans, so maybe I was already bias based on the color.

I tried on the jeans with excitement though the price tag of $88.00 was still going to be an issue even if I did fall in love. But luckily I didn't fall in love as they didn't fit like a dream. They were my size but they were tight in some places and bulky in other places. So I quickly wrapped them back up and put them in the bag to send back. Next I tried I on the "Renne C", Malcolm Heathered Dolman Sleeve Knit shirt. It looked like a moo moo on me. It was a small size and still swallowed me whole, so again that was a quick no - send back. The bracelet was cute, but to bulky for my wrist. I'm a dainty jewelry girl and for $38.00 I couldn't justify the money for probably the number of times I would actually wear this bracelet.

Overall my experience with the Stitch Box was not the best one. To purchase all five items would have been $266.00 with the original $20.00 box fee credited and a discount for purchasing all of five items of 25% off equaling a $61.50 discount, bringing the final total to $184.50. But say if I only wanted the jeans and bracelet, I would have paid $88.00 plus $38.00 minus the $20.00 styling fee equaling $106.00. Then if I liked and added the "Pomelo", Nolen Tribal Print Henley Tank at $54.00 it would have been $160.00 which is only $24.50 less than purchasing all the items together. I'm not sure what I think of this philosophy. I suppose if you are very fashion oriented and can afford to spend $200.00 each month on new clothes then it's a good deal. But based on my first box though, I doubt I would like every piece, every month. I also realize with time the boxes would become more customized to your past likes and dislikes.

I think the Stitch Fix box is a great concept just not one for me. I'm not luxury enough to be able to afford a box like this monthly or even bi-monthly. I do like that you can schedule boxes as often or never from the website, so there is no reoccurring monthly charge. My only other grip with the Stitch Fix box was you only have three days to decide if you want to keep the items or not, otherwise you will be charged for all the items. Three days isn't much time. I was staying downtown at my boyfriend's house when the box arrived. I got home and got the box on "day 2" and had to decide that night if I wanted to keep the items as I wanted to make sure it was postmarked before 5:00 PM on "day 3", because I certainly couldn't afford $184.50 being charged to my account and I didn't want to keep any of the items. I would have loved to get some decent pictures to show exactly what I didn't like about each item, but unfortunately the crappy pictures below will have to do for this post.

Once again, I hate bashing anyone's concept or business. I just wanted to express my experience and I know Stitch Fix is a great fix for many people, just not me. I wish them much success and I do appreciate them giving me the opportunity to review and test out their box.
