The experts at Skana Spa of the New York resort Turning Stone were kind enough to share with us this homemade sunscreen recipe with safe and tasteful ingredients that will provide plenty of protection all summer long.
What You Need:
• 1 ounce coconut oil
• 1 ounce red raspberry seed oil
• 1 ounce beeswax
• 5-10 drops of any essential oil
Melt the ingredients together in a glass bowl by placing it in a pan of water, allowing it to cool and become solid in form. Store in the fridge or a pantry at room temperature, which will keep the mixture in a solid state. Other natural oils with low levels of SPF that can be added include olive oil, hempseed oil, shea butter, coconut oil, and sesame oil.
Not only will the homemade all-natural sunscreen protect skin just as well as over the counter products, but it will also prevent harmful chemicals from entering the blood stream and putting the health at risk. The recipe is waterproof and will work to stay on the skin while swimming or even sweating in the sand. It can safely be applied generously to all areas of the body, including the face.
