As you can see above I have a huge, dusty box of CDs. I've always seen places where you can sell your CDs and make a bit of cash, but I have never sat down to investigate the actual process. I was recently introduced to www.musicmagpie.com, which is a website that will buy your old DVDs, CDs and video games. I don't own any DVDs, as I hate movies and think they are pointless, since I can't sit through a whole one and I play video games at my friend's house, but I do own lots and lots of old CDs. Lots and lots of old-school rap CDs and some I'm too embarrassed to admit I own. I tried selling them on e-bay once, but I got so many requests for individual ones instead of the whole bunch, it ended up being more of hassle than it was worth.

After investigating Music Magpie, I'm most definitely going to try it out. I think I'll do a trial run first, as honestly I can't even pick up the box with all the CDs in it, so I can only imagine how much the UPS guy would hate me. Since they have an app for smart phones, to scan the barcode, I downloaded the app and tested it out so I could write my initial thoughts. First the barcode reader is incredibly fast and it even reads some barcodes sideways. I only experienced one error out of twenty four scans and I rescanned which resulted in a successful scan. As you can see from the pictures below, my hip-hop CDs are worth the most especially my So-So Def CD being the highest taker! Atlanta representing!!
The app is very easy to navigate and easy to edit items in your cart incase you change your mind. Though fifty four cents is not much compared to what I paid for them fifteen years ago, it's fifty more cents in my pocket that I didn't have before. And every coin adds up, especially when they are quarters. I also noted on their website that you can donate the money to a charity, which I thought was thoughtful.
I think the only problem I might run into is, my marker happy self wrote "AL" on many of my CDs when I was younger, especially my favorite ones and in the support section it states that they don't accept: "If the cover, the disc artwork and/or the sleeve notes are defaced in any way." So I will have to do a thorough inspection before I send off my CDs.
I did check out their twitter, as I always judge companies by their twitter accounts and how they communicate with clients/customers and I must say, @MusicMagpie seems like they are very quick to respond back to customer inquires or concerns about their orders. For a head's up, don't rely on this money if you need it fast, as I noticed that many of the complaints were concerning the timeline. Music Magpie has an inspection team and process that verifies each and every item visually and audibly, which obviously can be time consuming, but again my CDs are just collecting dust bunnies, so what's another week or two waiting for a few extra dollars to come in and have an open space on the floor.
